IDOMA RENAISSANCE PRAISES JIMKUTA, BERATES NASS MEMBERS OF IDOMA EXTRACTION OVER POOR PERFORMANCE

Idoma Renaissance, a non-governmental organization, has faulted members of the National Assembly of Idoma extraction over what it described as “non-impactful contributions” to their constituencies, despite the huge financial resources allocated to them by the executive under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement signed by Johnson Ogwuche and Philip Okoh, President and Secretary respectfully of the NGO and made available to the press, the group expressed dismay that despite billions of naira released to lawmakers as constituency and project allocations, the people are yet to feel the impact of representation.

The group described Senator David Jimkuta as an exemplary leader and a benchmark for effective and people-oriented representation.

According to the statement, Senator Jimkuta recently executed a mega empowerment programme where he distributed cars and motorcycles, refrigerators, sewing machines, grinding machines and other business equipment to constituents.

‘’Over 1,000 constituents across all LGAs of Taraba South benefited’’ the statement said.

The initiative, according to Jimkut,a, was designed to reduce unemployment and boost small businesses in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Beneficiaries and stakeholders described the gesture as unprecedented in the zone.

“That is what representation should look like. When public funds are released, the people must see tangible results,” the group stated.

Idoma Renaissance said it has set up an Assessment Committee to critically review constituency funds released to lawmakers’ vis-à-vis visible projects on ground.

“We are challenging all National Assembly members to come out and present their scorecards. The Idoma Nation will no longer allow a few individuals to enjoy the patrimony of our people to the detriment of the larger population,” the group said.

“It is no longer business as usual. Any non-performing lawmaker will not be voted back to NASS.”

The organization stressed that it is non-partisan and its evaluation will be based strictly on performance and delivery to the people.

Reacting to the development,  a Public Analyst and Communications Expert, Dr.  Edeh Agbo, took a swipe at federal lawmakers, including the Senator representing Benue South.

“We are waiting for them. Their achievements are a far cry from what they collect as constituency allowances”

Agbo also queried the three years of Tinubu empowerment of Senators with whopping amount of N6 billion and members of the lower house with mouthwatering sum of N3 billion.

He disclosed that even with paucity of funds and delays in the release of Constituency Service Allocations, (CSA), at the state level, the members of the House of Assembly have impacted their constituents more than some NASS members.
